Davis tells The Post, “I really believe that food is medicine.” “I didn’t see anything about sex,” she said. “There’s a lot written about how food helps with chronic illness and preventing disease, but I didn’t see anything about sex.”
So, for her book, she looked into how different foods affect hormones and blood flow. If you eat a typical American diet full of sugary, fatty, and highly processed foods, you’re probably eating a lot of mojo-killing meals.
Davis says that sugar slows down your blood flow because it makes your capillaries “inflamed.” She says that this swelling cuts off blood flow to the sexual organs, which hurts libido and performance in bed.

You know that eating fried chicken isn’t good for your heart. Well, Davis says that trans-fat-rich foods, like fast food, frozen pizza, and microwaved popcorn, hurt another organ as well. People often say that chocolate is an aphrodisiac, but Davis says to avoid the kind that is highly processed and full of sugar, which is what most baked goods are. She says, “Sugar is the worst.” “Its effects on obesity and diabetes,” which are both bad for circulation, “are well-known.”
So, is chocolate ever a good idea? She says yes, but only in small amounts, and you should only eat dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa. She writes that the real stuff “has phenylethylamine in it, which is a chemical that makes endorphins, or feel-good hormones, work better.”
